Today was much better than the rest of the week has been. We came in one hour late and filled out our SPO sheets until lunch time. After lunch we watched some videos of riot formations, both peaceful and not. Then for the next two hours we went outside and worked on riot formations to control unruly crowds. We were given riot batons to practice with and we learned marching, the 'Flying V' as we nicknamed it and a few other techniques. I learned that our group sucks at marching and can't tell their left from their right.
Being outside was fun today. It actually got pretty hot once we started marching with our duty gear on. I sat outside and ate lunch today. It was probably 70 something degrees. Super nice! And Sunday the high is supposed to be 79! Finally, spring has arrived!
I ran outside after class today and it's a lot different than running on the track. I felt like my breathing was a lot heavier, probably because it's warmer outside than it is in the gym. I also noticed that my feet hurt a lot more when running outside on the pavement rather than inside on the rubberized track. If I don't die after DT tomorrow, I'm going to run outside again this weekend. Ben is my running partner and besides the days off for my leg injury, we have been running every day. We decided that we'd start running on the high school track soon. The high school track is apparently a few miles up the road and it's a very large track. This is the track we will be tested on, so the more practice on it, the better. My leg held up for the most part during running today. I had a knee brace on and my ankle taped for support. I'm doing the same for tomorrow's class too. I think we are learning how to use our asps (a.k.a. night sticks, batons, etc.). We should be learning take downs and everything. Hopefully it's more fun than work, but that's probably asking too much.
