What is SLETP? It stands for Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program. This program is offered by the National Park Service for those who would like to either work in the parks seasonally or full time. There are a few different types of park rangers. One is a general ranger (the people who hand out information or who fix the trails for you to walk on). The second is an interpretation ranger. Their duty is to dress in period garb to help you grasp an understanding of our nation's history or they might develop programs for the little kids. And the third is the law enforcement park ranger. We are trained to carry guns, we will go through wildlife training, how to deal with wildfires, the public, search and rescue missions, all sorts of good stuff. If you'd like a little more information, you can read up here. There are only 10 schools nationwide. I chose the Hocking College National Ranger Training Institute.
