Today began the official start of the EVOC Course (The Emergency Vehicle Operator Course). It was completely AWESOME! I was in the largest group of four and we were pretty squished in the car for a good portion of the day, duty belts and all. Guess who was the smallest and therefore had to squish in the middle of the back seat? Yours truly.
We did five courses today and tested out of four, I think. I'm not sure if two of them were officially timed, but I think we all passed them anyway. The guys seemed pretty upset at the fact that I beat their times in every event and then beat them in a race at the end of the day. I told them I was good at driving, but no one believed me. Shame on them.
We have another full day of driving tomorrow and I'm super psyched. I am not psyched for PT at 0600 (6:00 a.m.) though. It's going to suck. We are also supposed to have pouring rain and severe thunderstorms tomorrow so that should make driving even more interesting. And considering our tires and transmissions are already shot, I'm hoping we don't break any cars. Right now it takes about one to two seconds to shift from drive to reverse and visa versa. The transmission is that slow. I have a little trick that I've shared with the guys to ease the process though; if you are backing into a spot and you know you are going to have to stop, then proceed forward, I tend to put the car in neutral when I'm still backing. This gives the gears time to maneuver and also slows the car enough to the point where I can slam on the brakes and throw it into drive. Did I mention I love driving? Here are a few videos from today...
That's me driving by the way. :)
